SPMT Operator
Key Responsibilities
The SPMT Operator is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and movement of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters used to transport oversized and extremely heavy loads. This position works closely with project leadership and rigging crews to safely execute specialized heavy-haul moves in accordance with engineered plans and project requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Safely operate SPMT equipment during loading, transport, positioning, and unloading operations.
- Assist with the setup, configuration, connection, and breakdown of SPMT systems.
- Perform pre-use inspections and identify equipment or operational concerns before movement.
- Follow engineered transport plans, JHAs, load configurations, and instructions from project leadership.
- Monitor load stability, equipment performance, clearances, and site conditions throughout transport operations.
- Coordinate closely with Foremen, Superintendents, Leadmen, Riggers, and other operators during moves.
- Assist with mobilization, demobilization, and equipment loadout as required.
- Maintain a strong focus on jobsite safety, hazard recognition, communication, and stop-work responsibility.
- Support heavy rigging and specialized transport activities outside of SPMT operation as needed.
